The Best Deals in Cheap Strip and Downtown Las Vegas

Cheap Downtown Hotels are one of the places to look from for place to stay in when you are on a trip. In many different countries, downtown is the best place to find the best deals, be it in food, clothing and hotels. If you are a frequent visitor to the great city of Las Vegas, people usually had two options, the strip or downtown. To answer this underlying question you will have to find out about your reason of going to Las Vegas, and how much do you intend to shed. Let’s look at the differences between the strip and downtown.

If you love to be a sightseer then staying on the Strip is something you shouldn’t miss. The strip is actually Las Vegas Boulevard and is one of the most famous streets. First that will come into view is the Mandalay Bay and you will pass through about thirty casinos later and you will see the Stratosphere. So, if you’re looking for the newest, most opulent casinos, the strip is the right place for you. There are cheap hotels for every budget and you will be in a very short distance from the new casinos, which is considered a perfect attraction as well. You can also find here the world-class shopping centers with stores from all over the world.

The gambling area on the strip can be a little expensive, if you want to experience and play table games, the minimum bets are higher than in downtown, but if you want to play the slot machines and video pokers same rates apply. The restaurants on the strip are world class and you can find all the best cuisines you desire. A buffet is also served in just about every casino and some of the restaurants are perfectly outstanding.

The downtown area of Las Vegas on the other hand, is comprised of twelve casinos that are clustered together; you can even have a “casino-hopping” spree. Downtown is considered as the old school Vegas where you can encounter different types of people, the budget minded and the serious gambler. The table limits are lower and there are wide variety of slot machines and video poker.

The hotels range from fine to great. The Golden Nugget is considered the most opulent casino downtown. Every night you can go outside the casinos and look up and see a light show called the Freemont Street experience. This made the connection with most of the downtown casinos. On the other hand, if you want to relax, then downtown may be the place for you. It will all be your option, if you do want to see the casinos, or catch a glimpse of a show on the strip then it would be a cab ride away.

The bottom line is no matter where you are it is always best to find cheap downtown hotels that will cater to your needs.

Las Vegas Hotels ? Why Not Stay Downtown Las Vegas

The first thing I must make clear is that there is a difference between downtown Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Strip. The Las Vegas Strip officially known as Las Vegas Blvd, and is a long segment of Nevada state highway that runs through the Vegas Valley.

To make things a little more specific the Las Vegas Strip can be divided into 3 segments. That is the North End, Central Section and South End.

The gaming district of the Las Vegas Strip is about a 4.5 mile stretch of Las Vegas Hotels and Casinos. The North End of Las VegasStrip is about 1.5 miles south of downtown Las Vegas. Thus the very South End of the Las Vegas Strip is about 6 miles from downtown Las Vegas.

Within downtown Las Vegas is a gaming district. This is a small corridor of Las Vegas Hotels and casinos. Most of these properties are within walking distance of each other. This is also known as old Las Vegas. Downtown Las Vegas not only has a gaming district where the downtown Las Vegas hotels and casinos are located. It is like most large city downtowns where you will have courthouses, county jail facility, numerous banks, bus stations and many local government buildings.

There are 12 popular downtown Las Vegas hotels and casinos. They range from luxury upscale properties to average budget minded hotels. The advantage of staying downtown is that you have 10 hotel casino properties that you can easily walk back and forth to. For the most part these properties have everything you will find on the Las Vegas Strip in one tight little area. The convenience and accessibility of the downtown Las Vegas Hotels is tremendous.

Another great advantage of staying in a downtown Las Vegas hotel is price. These properties have some of the most competitive prices in Vegas. That does not mean they lack luxury. The downtown Las Vegas hotels have the same treatment and expectations as any. If you are looking for a bargain on your hotel rates then search downtown Las Vegas hotels and chances are you will find better rates than staying on the Las Vegas Strip.

The only real drawback in staying downtown is that just about all the famous Las Vegas headline entertainment is on the Las Vegas Strip. To make up for that downtown Las Vegas offers the Fremont Street Experience. This is like an outdoor mall with a large lighted canopy containing over 4 million light bulbs. Here is where you can view some of the most incredible musically themed light shows in existence. The best part is these show are free and available every night on top of the hour.

When selecting a Las Vegas hotel to stay at compare the prices and convenience of downtown Las Vegas. Just because you are staying downtown does not mean you can not make a short journey to the famous Las Vegas Strip. Not only are there numerous taxi cabs to take you there but also available the public buses. These buses known as CAT (Citizen Area Transit) buses have a specific route just for the Las Vegas Strip. The Deuce route is filled with Double-decker buses that leave the downtown area every 12 to 30 minutes, (depending on the time of day) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is also an express bus with limited stops that serve the Las Vegas Strip.

Taking a shuttle from Las Vegas Airport to downtown on a Saturday afternoon. Any suggestions?

Any thoughts on one shuttle company vs. another?
Any good/bad experiences?
How long can you expect to wait at the airport?
Travel times?
Reserving vs. walk-up?
Tips for me?
Do you tip the shuttle driver?

I am not looking for links or anything like that, just responses from your direct experience. Thanks for your thoughtful responses!
I’m staying downtown. Are there separate downtown and Strip shuttles? Am I doomed to be the last one dropped off? ;)

Las Vegas – Downtown Vs The Strip

I have visited Las Vegas quite a few times over the last several years, and one of the most asked questions I received is whether people should stay on the Strip or Downtown. After I tell them they will enjoy their vacation in Las Vegas no matter where they stay, I tell them the differences between Downtown and the Strip.

Downtown (Old School Vegas)

Downtown is for the budget minded and the serious gambler who do not like all the glitz, glamour, of the strip. All of the casinos downtown are close together and you can easily walk to all of them. Table games like blackjack, roulette, craps, and others also have lower bet minimums than the Strip. Slot machines, and video poker are everywhere and you can always find nickel machines. Free cocktails are always available when you gambling downtown.

The rooms downtown are comfortable, clean, and less expensive than their Strip counterparts. The Golden Nugget is the most opulent casino downtown. Outside of the Downtown casinos step outside at night and look up and see a light show called the Freemont Street experience, which connects most of the casinos. If you like a laid back, block party atmosphere then downtown may be the place for you. If you do want to see the casinos, or catch a show on the strip it’s only a cab ride away.

The Strip

Las Vegas Boulevard is the actual street name of the Las Vegas Strip and it is one of the most famous streets in the world. If you drive down the strip starting at the airport the first casino you will see is Mandalay Bay and thirty casinos or so, later you will see the Stratosphere, which has a roller coaster on top. The Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, and Mandalay Bay set the standard for luxury in Las Vegas.

If you are a sightseer then you might prefer to stay on the strip, there are hotels for every budget and you will be close to all the new casinos, which are an attraction themselves. The table limits on the Strip can be higher, but you can look around and find lower limits, especially during the week. Of course the cocktails service is always free for gamblers.

Off Strip Properties

We should not forget the off strip properties that range from the budget minded to luxury, and specialty hotel casinos. You can have luxury at places like Green Valley Ranch, which was also the subject of a television show. The Rio Suites are also off strip and where the world series of poker is played. Another favorite is Sam’s Town, which offers a large RV park and comfortable rooms at very good prices, you can even go bowling at their fifty six alley bowling lane.

In summary whether you prefer the mega resort casinos on the strip or the smaller budget minded casinos of downtown you should have a great time. Always check the web for Las Vegas vacation packages. Good deals are always available in Las Vegas, so enjoy your vacation.

Charlie Palmer Hotel in downtown Las Vegas put on hold for two years
The economy is putting a crimp in plans for a 426-room boutique hotel designed by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer in the 61-acre Symphony Park in downtown Las Vegas. The Las Vegas City Council decided Wednesday to allow the developer to delay construction for at least two years on the 426-room, non-gaming hotel — and possibly as long as four years.
