Lake Las Vegas Ice Skating
While ice skating may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Christmas in Las Vegas, even without the snow, the floating skating rink at Lake Las Vegas holds on to the traditional Christmas pastime.
For the fourth year, Lake Las Vegas kicked off the holiday season with their floating Rockefeller Center sized skating rink. The ice rink floats on the 320-acre lake, off the shore of MonteLago Village and is open to skaters of all ages. It uses 110 five gallon buckets of water and 12,000-pound chiller unit to help keep the ice cold, and can hold up to 60 skaters at a time.
Starting off the holidays in Las Vegas, Lake Las Vegas Resort hosted it’s ceremonial tree lighting, with an appearance by Santa Claus and a special musical performance by Green Valley Choir and Helen Joy Choir on Friday, November 16.
Marketing Director Cary Krukowski says “Every year we love to create an environment that brings families closer together, builds festive traditions and allows us to be part of their memories.”
The Lake Las Vegas ice rink is open every day from noon to 9 p.m. through February 17. The cost is $15 per person, $12 for children 12 years of age and under. Groups of 20 or more are $8 a person and season passes are also available for $125 (including the cost of skate rentals).
Lake Las Vegas is host to other fun and holiday-themed events as well. The popular annual gingerbread competition runs daily until December 22nd, as well as holiday shopping and visits from Santa Claus at Monte Lago until December 23rd.
