Moving to Australia for a year, where is the best place to live with the most to do?

I’m moving to Australia fro a year but before I do so I’m doing a little research. I’m looking for the best place to live in Australia that fits the given criteria.

-Hiking
-Surfing
-Casual nightlife entertainment (bars, movies, things to do)
-I do not need nightlife such as dance clubs and those sort of things.
-A place with a younger population (20-30′s)

Right now I’m looking at Gold Coast in Queensland but an Australian told me that’s like the Las Vegas of Australia which turns me off a bit. Anyone have any good suggestions or would care to set me straight on the Gold Coast impression that I have?

When do the pools at most Las Vegas hotels open for the year?

What are some recreational classes avaliable for a 13 year old in Las Vegas?

Okay so Im 13 and I want to get into some sort of activity away from school. Frankly , Im tired of school. So I want an activity in Las Vegas, Henderson , or the Green Valley area. Please dont say Girlscouts. Been there , done that. Not worth it. Thanks for all your responses >_<

Are the jacuzzies in Las Vegas hotels open year round?

I am going to vegas this winter, and i was looking forwards to hanging out in the spas/ jacuzzi at the hotel pool. Some one told me that they might be all closed in the winter. Do they drain them in the winter? (it would make sense, but that is when people want to relax in them, when its cold out)
