Vintage 1993 Las Vegas Strip at Night
Old VHS home video clips of the Las Vegas Strip in October, 1993. Taken at the time of the Dunes Hotel implosion….the last days of classic “old” Vegas. Video by Greg Clarke. This and my other Vegas videos available on DVD!! — contact if interested

damn, old memories
Wow! The first time i went there was in 1994, I was a young 18 year old. it just keeps changing there but I love that town.
To each they’re own, but I prefer THAT vegas.
Vegas is WAYYY better today.
The year I came to vegas. it was the best at that time. No superhotels, no pyramids, no stupid overhead lightshows.

Agreed,
Today, the north strip looks like a ghost town

great video i loveedd the dunes i cried(well not really lol) when it came down that was my favorite hotel.
I thank you very much for sharing this video. I never had a chance to even see it and by seeing it this way I sort of live it. Wynn made a grave mistake now las vegas is a European paradise
I dont take my family there, its good for other familys, plus it doesnt matter because the last time i was there, all you see are familys now silly boy.

Why would you bring your family to Vegas? It is an adult town, and was always intended to be. I’m sorry but Circus Circus needs to go now.
The old Dunes sign was one of the best! So unique and classy!
I likes the old Dunes sign also
The North strip looked so full of life
This video reminded me how large that Circus Circus sign really is when you’re looking up at it!! I also got a flashback of how hot the lights are when you walk under the entrance canopy. Haven’t been there in years because of the decline of the clientele, people leaving their kids laying on the sidewalks outside Slots of Fun, and people panhandling. However, next time I’m in Vegas, will make sure to make the stop. Won’t be too many more oppty’s to experience “Old Vegas”.
Thank you very much!… still have a bit more old video to clip….some day shots of the old Dunes sign being worked on (to re-light it one last time before the implosion) and also the orig TI pirate ship battle on the day the place opened up…..
Great video, Greg. I enjoyed seeing the additional footage that wasn’t in your original video (although I really loved your old videos because the Sinatra songs fit in perfectly).
I also added your video to my Vintage Vegas group on Facebook. Take care!
The DUNES sign had its plug pulled when the hotel shut down in Jan 1993….it was relit for only the last night of the implosion–I have some video of the crew working on the sign in the last daylight hours before the blast….I might see about uploading it sometime…
Dunes is my favourite sign too! At least the sign is immortalized forever in the movies “Rain Main” (the office scene where Tom Cruise is told to take his money and get out of town) and “Casino” (when they first show the Tangiers hotel).
I only wish that I could have seen the sign in person. While Dunes was closed down (January to October 1993), was the sign lit at night?
PS — love the red & blue neon stripes at Stardust!
Yes…sadly the Frontier sign was recently demolished…the neon museum MIGHT have received some lettering…have not heard. The old DUNES sign was my favorite of old Vegas–shame that it is forever gone…
