What is there to do in Las Vegas (Other than shows or gambling)?
What is there to do in Las Vegas? I am speaking of things other than a seeing a show and gambling. I’m arriving in about one week and I need to start planning what I will do soon. Any ideas are helpful, but I am a student so my budget isn’t the highest. Thanks.

Shopping, (or window shopping) people watching, rides. Visit the Dam.
There are plenty of attractions to see. There is Madame Tussaud’s Was Museum, the Auto Collection at the Imperial Palace (lots of antique and unique cars free admission at link below) stuff like that. Lots to see at the themed hotels Like New York-New York, Luxor, Caesar’s Palace, Venetian etc. Take your time and really look around. The decor is pretty amazing and there is something to see in every corner, nook and cranny. There are some excellent thrill rides such as found atop the Stratosphere Tower or the roller coaster at NY-NY. If your hotel has a swimming pool that is useful.
There is a free tram that runs from Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur. Another that runs from Monte Carlo though City Center to Bellagio. An still another that runs from Treasure Island to the Mirage.
There are literally hundreds of restaurants, clubs and Party Bars to choose from. Look through the magazines and brochures provided in your room or in the Lobby or on counter tops in many stores for coupons and come-ons.
You can go to Vegas a hundred times and not see everything. The only people who can possibly get bored are boring people. Wear comfortable walking shoes because these hotels are massive. The distances are deceptive, too. You will find that many of the hotels seem to be an easy walk but you seem to just keep walking and walking and never getting any closer. There is a reason for this. You see, it is a matter of scale. To look more architecturally appealing, many hotels have false windows on the facade. This is purely for ascetics. The windows in the rooms are normal in size but they would make the huge hotels look like prisons. So they have false windows that actually accommodate two or more floors, making the whole building look smaller. These large windows make the building seem much closer than they are.
Take your time and enjoy looking around. You never know what you will find.

I suggest seeing the Grand Canyon. It makes for a great day trip. The West Rim is only 120 miles from the City. You can reach it by either helicopter or bus. The heli trip that takes you to the bottom of the Canyon is phenomenal. As you research things to do, bookmark this site, which ranks and rates Grand Canyon helicopter tours:

Enjoy
There is so much to do in Las Vegas you will have no problem filling the hours. Of course there is lots of gambling. Since many bars and clubs in the area charge a premium for drinks your best bet may be to put a $20 in a penny or nickel machine and enjoy the free libations until your luck runs out. There are plenty of shoes, but again, many of those are also at a premium price. Depending on which hotel you decide to stay at and which site you book through you can sometimes receive free or steeply discounted tickets to current shows including: Blue Man Group (a must see), Cirque Du Soleil, an assortment of concerts, or Broadway shows. There’s also a variety of side attractions including wax museums, memorabilia museums, roller coasters, art galleries, etc. You may want to look into a Las Vegas Power Pass. For a fee the pass offers many discounted and free admissions to these attractions. Also, a similar meal ticket can be purchased which offers you three meals a day at a large selection of Vegas top restaurants at a discounted price. Finally, if you’d like to enjoy the ever so famous Las Vegas freebies try just walking through the various hotels. They are all themed and most have expansive malls beneath the noise of the casino. Often the malls carry on the theme of the hotel and are attractions within themselves. Venetian, Cesar’s, and Mirage all offer some of the most interesting decors. And don’t forget History channels hit show “Pawn Stars” is filmed at the Silver & Gold Pawn Shop at the end of the strip past Stratosphere.

All the ads tell you about the casinos, gambling and shows. The real excitement is in the national parks that surround Las Vegas. Just to name a few: Red Rock, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, even a ski area in the winter. Explore them before you come by looking at VegasNature.com Besides they are a lot less expensive to visit. You may want to email their trip adviser also.
Check out local paper at http://www.lvrj.com and click on entertainment. Clubbing is very expensive hint. Enjoy the fountains at Bellagio, Sirens show front of Treasure island, volcano at Mirage, two free anatronic statute shows at Forum Shops at Caesars
You could head to the Hoover Dam which is about an hour (more or less) away. Or you could go hiking at Valley of Fire, it has a really nice scenery. I’m sure there are plenty of other things to do, outside the strip.
you can go to lake mead and just have a good time
