What’s the best stuff to do on the old Las Vegas strip?
My crew is going to make a visit to the old Las Vegas strip when we go out next week. I’m just wondering what there actually is to do over there, except take in some of the classic Vegas culture?
Sorry, by “old strip” I meant Fremont St. downtown. I’m from Chicago, so I may have used the wrong description.

go watch a show. they’re great
Why don’t you just go to {ViVa} Las-Vega instead of being really lame on the internet? Las Vegas is just another city, filled with die-hard Whores of every kind and creed.
WELL BESIDES GAMBLING YOU CAN SHOP AND THEY ALSO HAVE LOTS OF ANTIQUE SHOPPING FOR FUN. I WOULD TAKE IN A SHOW OR SIT IN ON A GAME SHOW. YOU CAN TAKE TOURS OF THE FAMOUS PLACES THE CELEBRITIES PARTY AS WELL. I HOPE YOU HAVE LOTS OF FUN IT’S SO HUGE IT’S OVERWELMING
Best thing is to have dinner at Hugo’s cellar. Downstairs at the 4 Queens.
Next best thing to do is get a cab back to the strip.
If you are really travelling with a crew, you need to get “The Las Vegas Little Black Book” Check it out and I’m sure you will give me ‘best answer’!
mothsa is right. Hugo’s Cellar is a great place. If you like shrimp cocktail, the Golden Gate has a 99 cent one that is chock full of small shrimp. For 50 cents more you get larger shrimp.
For black jack, the Vegas Club has the most liberal rules.
I have heard that more people hit the 50 cent slot jackpots at the California than anywhere else in Vegas, and is a nice place.
The light show is pretty good. A nice free thing.
I have always found the old strip caters to the gambler, not families, like the new strip.
You really must check out the Freemont St. Experience. I was there in April and I must tell you, it is awesome!
It is free to go. The entire street is closed to traffic. Overhead is (the only way I can explain it) a giant screen that is like 7 blocks long. Every hour (I think) there is a display overhead.
It is much like a street fair, with artist vendors, t-shirt sales, musicians. It was sooo much fun, I thought it was one of the highlights of our trip!
Have fun!
well You could slide on over to the Catina at the New Frontier or try the Circus Circus Buffet stop by the site of the old Stardust and Take a moment of reflection. Then see the Riviera they do a T-bone steak dinner for some ungodly price as I remember my last time I think it was $3.99 don’t qoute me on that! if you do nothing else go see that huge hunk of Gold at the Goldden Nugget
The old strip? Well let’s see, you can buy meth, get a cheap hooker and stay in a dirty hotel/motel for the night for next to nothing. Good times!
Fremont Street is the best
youll find millions of things to do!!
seriously
have fun and good luck!
“OLD” las vegas?
hmm you could lock your doors and carry pepper spray.. thats what I would do.
i mean, theres freemont street with the big screen overhead (plays every 15 minutes), old casinos that choke you with the smell of stale cigg smoke, the deepfried twinkie place that actually did make a second round after i ate there if you get the idea, and the glitter gulch if you want some action. although the girls are a little rough, over 40s, and the place smells like vomit. probably becuase they are next to the deepfried twinkie place.
Unlike everyone else who is posting on this question, I really like Fremont street downtown. The hotels are clean and reasonably priced. I’m not really young anymore, and I don’t like to stay at the resorts on the strip. That’s what they are-resorts, and if you like that kind of thing, then great. I enjoy gambling, free drinks, good food, and WINNING when I gamble. Downtown is the easiest place to gamble and win. I spend relatively little time in my room, so as long as it’s clean and comfortable, I’m a happy camper. It’s just a nice change of scenery than the strip. The Fremont street show is free, and for more food than Hugo’s, the Triple 7′s at the Main Street Station is a great brewery. Enjoy.
ok; fremont.
well there is golden nugget hotel and the whole ambiance of the place. The new pool is amazing with sharks!! and last time i was there i just walked in without staying at the hotel
The worlds largest golden nugget in the lobby is a good photo opportunity.
Hugos Cellar in the four queens is a classy restaurant that wouldn’t be out of place in the bellagio or wynn.
The buffet at both the Fremont and golden nugget are good, but the nuggets is my favourite.
there is a section of the berlin wall in main street station casino. Also don’t miss the 99cent prawn cocktail in the Golden gate casino or the $6.99 primb rib dinner at the Californian (amazing value)
the hourly fremont street experience (starting at 6pm till 12am) should obviously be big on your agenda as should a visit to the neon museum and graveyard (the resting place of the old vegas signs).
the restaurant center stage in the Plaza has been the site of many vegas movies including the classic Casino with robert de niro.
fremont experience on fremont street and all the casinos and strip bars there in down town.

The Old Strip? Well about the only thing going on there besides the old casnios, some of which have been redone, is Fremont Street Experience at night. Great light show which changes each hour of the night.
